TWO WINS UNDER 1 WEEK, AMS' WOMEN BASKETBALL TEAM IS READY FOR THE PLAYOFF

One week after the opening ceremony, Hanoi-Amsterdam' women basketball team (AWB) has already got two wins under their belts. The first one was a grudge match against Nguyen Gia Thieu, and the second was against a new team called Thang Long.

Because the school basketball court has just been upgraded recently, our home-field advantage haven't show quite clearly. The AWB team didn't start the game as they wanted to. The first 3 quarter, the two teams exchanged baskets, as well as exchanged fouls and mistakes, but from mid quarter 3 on, it was all AWB. Our players, Lê Đào Hương Thảo (A1 03-06) and Mai Hoàng Yến (Nga 03-06) shredded their sleepiness (the game started around 8) and showed their true ability with a couple of threes and lay up. But the star of this game was Mai Hoàng Yến, who scored baskets after baskets to keep the score close until her team-mates finally show up. The final result was 23-17 with Mai Hoàng Yến scoring 14 points for AWB and was obviously player of the game.

The impression of second win is a more relaxing game with full of teamwork. Although, everyone in the team contributed to this brilliant win but once again, Mai Hoàng Yến stole the show. RUKIE-Đặng Ngọc Linh (A2 03-06), the new star who was transferred from Viet Duc high school at the beginning of this year scored 11 points for her new team in this game, while Trương Bích An (P2 02-05) added 7 points, and Mai Hoàng Yến topped it all with the tournament high (so far) 17 points.Phan Thuy Linh (A2 03-06) scored only 2 points for the team but she defended, hustled and rebounded to cover for her ineffectiveness on offence.
With this 2 wins, AWB is well underway to go to the playoff, but in this group stage, they still have a few more games to go and let's hope they will give us 100% effort and more excitement.

ALSO TWO WINS, THE MEN STARTED WITH AN EVEN BETTER FASHION

Followed the women's success, the men's team also won their first two games in the group stage. In a game with Trần Phú High School which gets a high ranked, our team showed the reason why they are always the number 1 favourite. They crushed their opponent with the score of 51-18. Tran Phu's players couldn’t score any point during the first quarter. They were just able to get 13 points in the second, four pints in the third and only one point in the fourth quarter. The start of the game was Thành (L1 03-06) the new Point Guard of the team. He was the only one with two 3 pointers in this game. Thanh finished the game with 12 points while Thái Anh Dũng (L2 03-06) and Nhân (04-07) contributed with 10 pointed and Tùng (L2 02-05) got 8 points for Ams’ team. Long (H1 03-06) who is recognized as the best high school basketball player in Hanoi had a really disappointing show with only 1 points, but he covered it up with 4 blocks and multiple rebounds.
The second game was against Nguyễn Siêu Private High School, who also has one player from the city team (who was playing along side Long, Dung, Tung of AMS last summer). However, AMS still whipped Nguyễn Siêu pretty bad, finished the game 60-13. Long still hadn't found his shooting touch but contributed in all other way he can with the most rebs (12), steals (6), block (1) and second in assists. Captain Nguyễn Thái Dũng once again scored the second most for AMS with 17 points. New point guard Thành only scored 4 point this game but had 5 assists to go with it. Nhân got another brilliant game with 21 points and could see some more playing time down the stretch. Lê Bá Nam Linh (H2 04-07) the shortest man on the field , scored 2 points in his first game and also had one amazing block.
