AMS Basketball teams keep on rolling
TWO MORE WINS, AMS TEAMS ARE onE STEP CLOSER TO "HISTORY"
AMS basketball teams have always had the tradition of winning. The current men and women basketball teams are following their elders' tradition with ease. This time, they even have the chance to make history, winning both of the medals, on home stage.
The women's team keep on rolling through their opponents, this time, their rival Hai Bà Trưng High School (the team that beated them in the finals the last two years). This year, it is our chance, and we crushed them bad. The shocking result of 40-18 showed there was no luck in this game, just pure talent. Mai Hoàng Yến still topped all scorer with 14 points, but this was much more of a team game than the previous two. Rukie-Đặng Ngọc Linh scored 10 points and maintaining her double digit scoring streak alive, while guarding the best player in the other team and limiting her to only a couple of baskets. Phan Thùy Linh got her shooting touch back and made three nice long shots to finished with 6 points. Also had 6 points was Nguyễn Thu Trang with a nice hook shot and a long jumper that had some shooter luck in it. Lê Đào Hương Thảo also contributed 4 points while the rest of the team all hustled for every rebounds.
While the dominant performance by the women's team came as a little surprise to some people , for example myself, since Hai Ba Trưng along with AMS are the favorite to win this tournament), the men's result in the quarterfinal just proved why they are definitely the surest bet for this final. Going against, coincidently, Hai Bà Trưng High School, AMS topped 50 points the third time in 3 games, winning this one 61-18. Hai Bà Trưng only reached double digit late in the 3rd quarters. Captain Thái Anh Dũng, who guaranteed that he would score the most point in this game, kept his promise, tallied a total of 18 points while Nhân, the top scorer of the second game, only had 8, and Trần Quang Thành, best scorer in the first one, finished with just 2 points (but he also had the team high 4 assists). Hiển, another 10th grader this year had 8 points and team-high 4 blocks while his fellow classmate Đinh Thanh Long scored 6 and Văn Hà had 4. Tùng and Trần Anh Dũng, both 12 graders, added 5 and 4 points for AMS. Lê Quốc Long got 6 points (more than the combine of what he had the previous 2) along with game-high 9 rebounds and 5 steals. With this result AMS will play in the semifinal against Chu Van An High School next Wednesday.
Next week, the tournament will end and we will know if both trophies will stay in AMS or not. Let's hope all the best for our beloved players.
